Verdict

The HEAD Speed Junior 2025 is designed for competitive junior players aged 10 and up. Teardrop shape, fiberglass face, Eva Soft core, 300-330g. An improved construction over the 2023 Junior, it carries the Speed line character in a frame properly sized for junior competitive play.

The weight is the most important specification for junior equipment. At 300-330g the Speed Junior is significantly lighter than any adult HEAD racket. This difference is not a minor consideration - it determines whether young players can swing the racket with mechanically correct technique or whether they compensate with the shortcuts that build bad habits. Shortened backswing, arm-driven contact, poor posture: these all emerge from rackets that are too heavy for the player using them. The Speed Junior's weight allows junior players to swing properly from the beginning.

The teardrop shape is the right format for junior competition. A round shape is too passive for players who are beginning to compete and need to develop attacking capabilities. A diamond shape demands a level of technique and physical development that most junior players do not yet have. The teardrop develops both net and baseline skills simultaneously, builds attacking habits, and remains forgiving enough for the contact inconsistencies that characterise junior play.

Fiberglass face and Eva Soft core protect developing young arms. Junior bodies are not finished developing - bone, tendon, and joint structures are still maturing throughout adolescence. High-vibration constructions transmit stress that adult bodies manage through conditioning but junior bodies accumulate as injury risk. The Speed Junior's soft construction is genuinely appropriate for the physiology of its intended audience.

At EUR 79.95 it is well priced for a current-generation junior racket from a manufacturer at this level.
